General Tips and Tricks
Here are some tips and tricks on how to run the best workshop!
- It is important for the workshop leader to send encouraging emails a while before the workshop. Let the students know that you are very excited for the workshop and encourage them to read the material or watch an interesting short video and most importantly ask them to come with questions!
- During workshop, be as prepared and motivated as possible, this really pushes the students to cooperate and focus. The workshop leader sets the whole atmosphere in workshop so try to make it as positive as possible!
- Be approachable and open to any questions or interruptions. Students sometimes get shy to ask questions and if they get comfortable, they might ask you all of a sudden. Always be dedicated to make sure that everyone understands the given material.
- Don’t expect students to keep writing notes as long as you speak. However, let them engage with the answers and think critically without writing down what they don’t understand. After you make sure that everyone understands, you can repeat the answers.
- Try to write on the board as much as possible. Students understand much more better this way!
- Let the students check their understanding by clearly explaining the question with the answer. This makes them feel very confident and ensures that the information is stuck to their minds.
- Finally, remember that you are a student who is still learning, so it is okay to blank out on an answer or not knowing how to deliver an idea to your students. If you show dedication and full interest for them to understand, it is completely fine!
