Workshops During a Pandemic

Social Distancing Guidelines

  • Entering and Leaving the Workshop Classroom
    • Entering: Wait to enter until the workshop leader is present. While waiting, students are expected to line up on the right hand side of the hallway, maintaining 6 feet of distance between each person. Confirm that no one else is in the room and have the workshop leader guide the students in.
    • Leaving: Have students seated closest to the exit be dismissed first. Everyone must continue to maintain 6 feet of distance between them as they leave. The workshop leader should be the last one out and they should make sure that the room is vacant by the time their scheduled session is over.
    • Staying after: If students would like to stay after the workshop has completed to ask questions, they must move to another location to allow in the next class that has the room scheduled.
      • It may be smart to move to an open outdoor area.
  • During the Workshop:
    • Masks must be kept on at ALL TIMES and worn correctly, covering the mouth and nose.
      • If a student is not wearing a mask, kindly ask them to put one on. If they do not put on their mask after asking, remind them that it is against the Code of Conduct to refuse this request and they may be asked to leave if this action is not taken. After asking twice, ask the student to leave and submit a Covid-19 Concern Report at https://www.rochester.edu/care/reports.html.
      • Note: If the student does not have a mask on them, let them know that they are available in Lower Hoyt G15.
    • Furniture may not be moved from its marked location.
    • Everyone should maintain a 6 foot distance (however, it is acceptable to walk to the board and to leave the room if everyone is masked.)
    • No eating is allowed in the classrooms. Drinking is permitted, but time with a mask off should be limited to taking sips.
    • No sharing of markers, erasers, or pens is permitted. Distribution of paper copies of the workshops is allowed, but should be minimized.
    • Students may not attend other in-person workshops. If they need to make up a workshop, they must coordinate to attend an online workshop or watch a recording of it once it has been posted.
